Details

One of the finest and most exhaustive 993 Rennsport recreations ever to come to market. This very well known and influential car had been a complete labour of love for Richard ‘Jackal’ Morris, a well-known member of the 911uk.com community, since April 2009.who spent 8 years of creating the base car. He bought the car in April 2009 as a high specification, low miles Carrera C2 from an owner in Sussex who had cherished it for around 9 years. It was owned previous to that by the parts manager at his local Porsche specialist Paragon and has a very long service history there too. Since acquiring it he steadily transformed it into the M003 RS Clubsport recreation you see today with genuine Porsche Rennsport parts and an enormous amount of labour time. During a visit to Ninemeister in 2016, managing director Colin Belton estimated that an equivalent car today would cost in excess of £190,000 to build excluding the price of the donor car. Over the years it’s fair to say that almost every chassis component on the car, suspension components, bushings, ball joints, tinware, screws and bolts, disks, calipers, heatshields etc. have either been replaced with new, refurbished, powdercoated, dipped and plated, or just extensively cleaned. You are looking at a car where no stone has been left unturned it’s refurbishment and transformation to a Clubsport. What makes this build stand out is the genuine 3.8 RS Engine, supplied via, Paul McLean of GT Classics who supplied a completely refurbished and rebuilt original 3.8-litre RS engine, which sets it apart from almost every other homage or recreation. The car was mapped at Porsche specialist 9m by Wayne Schofield, while the geometry and ride heights were done by Chris Franklin at Center Gravity. The last round of major works under Richards ownership took place in 2015. Tony Littlejohn of GTR Motorsport (previously head of bodywork at Porsche GB) completed the fabrication and install of the Clubsport cage and Clubsport interior to exact RS specification right down to the smallest of details such as sourcing the tubing from the same factory as Matter cages did with the genuine RS cars, and ensuring the weld patterns and lengths on the cage were exactly the same as Porsche did them. Paul Mclean of GT Classics supplied a completely refurbished and rebuilt 3.8 litre RS engine and I had the car mapped at ‘9m’ by Wayne Schofield and the geometry and ride heights done by Chris Franklin at ‘Center of Gravity’. It is also fitted with genuine RS clutch and single mass flywheel, single pulley and quick-shift mechanism; RS engine mounts and carrier; and a factory-supplied M220 limited-slip differential. Its suspension features genuine RS front uprights, A-arms and a strut brace, as well as correct monoball top mounts and anti-roll bars front and rear. The rear A-arms and toe arms were re-bushed to RS specification rubber. Its coil-over shock absorbers are Bilstein B16 PSS10 items. The genuine RS Speedline alloy wheels house authentic RS brake discs and callipers front and rear. Its bodywork also features genuine RS parts, including the M003 front splitter, side skirts, rear spoiler, front wings (the last kit available from the factory) and rear window glass. The rolled rear arches are also to the correct specification. On completion of this work in 2015, the car is almost impossible to distinguish from the real thing. Only the missing vacuum assist brake setup in the front boot hint at the cars origins. With the extra rigidity and feel from the welded cage and the low torque of the RS 3.8 engine, the car is now a whole other level of fun not to mention confidence inspiring and AtoB pace across country. From the tight twisty routes of Wales to big big roads in Austria, this car is utterly intoxicating to drive and devastatingly rapid at the same time. The spring rates and damping are beautifully judged and modern in nature which puts the experience ahead of a real RS from the get go. Some of the solid bushings, the rennline rear cage mounts, the retention of the C2 rack mean that the car is actually a wee bit sharper than a real Clubsport which is a good thing too. As it still has the C2 gearbox and proper underseal it is still perfectly useable though and the ear defenders can be left firmly at home every time you head off. The history of the car has been very well documented on Jackal’s forge website with a huge catalogue of pictures detailing all of the build with pages and pages of pictures and information so please feel free to find out even more there. She obviously comes with an enormous file of service history and paperwork paperwork stretching right back to the beginning all of which is contained in two A4 folders.
